Five Benefits of Working Down Under

Our team recently had the pleasure of catching up with a group of six friends from the UK, (clockwise left from the back row: David Levy, William Headdon, Sarah Foster, Katie Brooks, Daniel Thomas, Jonathan Hills), who we placed in positions throughout New Zealand and Australia.  They are having the time of their lives here and think it's time you did too!

Work Life Balance:  'We constantly have that holiday feeling, with less rostered hours the days seem so much longer.'  There are no long commutes to work (most of them living minutes away from their hospital) for these doctors and there is time in the evenings to get out and enjoy the southern hemisphere lifestyle. Whether it is going surfing, having bar-b's at the beach or hiking on the many tracks, watching telly is no longer on the agenda.
The Working Conditions: Not only are you required to work less but you also get paid for overtime.  Nightshifts are ten hours and in some hospitals you even get two hours sleep. You get your meals provided (so no more boring home cooking to worry about) and the atmosphere and team support at the hospitals is great.
The Experience:  Working on the other side of the world, has given our doctors exposure to whole new range of complaints from snake and spider bites to injuries caused by kangaroos!  The hands-on experience in the smaller hospitals has also been a great learning experience for our doctors.  They are getting to work side-by-side with Consultants and the exposure has been hugely educational.
The Money:  'With the weaker pound, we are not only having the time of our lives but we are also saving lots'. The tax and living allowance benefits coupled with paid overtime are doing great things to this groups bank accounts!
The Great Outdoors: The great outdoors is on your doorstep and there is just so much more to do in your free time. From swimming with dolphins, jumping out of planes, diving the reefs, learning to snowboard – no matter where you are based the options are endless.
