About the role
General Practitioners (GPs) provide a pivotal role within the practice. They are an appropriately qualified and registered medical professional with knowledge and skills to provide personal, family, whanau and community orientated comprehensive primary care medical services to individuals.
As part of the general practice team GPs are responsible for providing safe, patient-centred, culturally appropriate, and individually holistic care to a defined population.
GPs work closely with the nursing team to provide clinical guidance, assistance education and support. Both staff and patients should feel that they have been dealt with in a professional, friendly and courteous manner.
Clinical Services
• Provide Primary Care Services
• Provide timely clinical and culturally appropriate health services
• Work collaboratively with other health providers as necessary to coordinate and improve patient’s health outcomes
• Provide health promotion and health education to patients
Business Management
• Ensure all patient services are charged appropriately
• Ensure all patient information is accurate, appropriate and in accordance with agreed protocols
• Assist with the practice reporting requirements, as requested
Quality
• Comply with Health and Safety policies
• Maintain appropriate CME at least at the level required to maintain ongoing accreditation through the maintenance of professional standards of the RNZCGP
• Participate in practice accreditation or other quality improvement systems
