• Strong general surgical capability with a safe, patient-centred approach.
• Effective clinical assessment, decision-making, prioritisation, and escalation skills.
• Clear communication with patients, wh?nau, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a busy clinical environment.
• Commitment to clinical safety, quality improvement, and professional standards.
• Must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience supporting teaching, supervision, or mentoring of colleagues.
• Interest in service improvement, clinical audit, or quality initiatives.
• Confidence contributing to multidisciplinary planning and case discussion.
• Adaptability across a broad range of surgical presentations.
• Familiarity with providing care in regional or community-focused services.

Preferred Experience

• Relevant postgraduate clinical experience in general surgery or a similar service.
• Experience managing a varied surgical workload in a busy hospital environment.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing clinical demands and escalate appropriately.
• Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development through teaching, audit, or quality improvement involvement.
